Greetings,
I am writing to provide you a little background regarding our department’s efforts in Second Life and pass along a preliminary set of FAQs that you can use to get started in Second Life. If you will remember, last week I sent you an email providing you some instructions on how to join Second Life.
Although the department is providing the infrastructure in terms of maintaining our SL ‘island’, we want our HHP island to ultimately reflect your vision of what SL can be. As a predominantly a commuter school, we know how difficult it can sometimes be to foster a sense of community among your peers and professors. Second Life can help overcome some of the barriers that first life presents to developing the spirit of community by providing a place were you can interact with your classmates and professors from anywhere you have access to a computer. Just as in your first life, in SL you can work, shop, play, learn, listen to a concert or dance the night away. As an incentive to join, we are providing you Linden dollars (the currency of SL) based upon the amount of cumulative time you spend on our island. You might not get rich, but we will pay you enough to buy that new outfit or Gucci shoes!
I invite you join Second Life and visit our island.
I hope to see you in SL
